GRANT OPPORTUNITY:

Healthy People 2010 Grants for Chapters
Funded by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Friends of Children Fund

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), with financial support from the Friends of Children Fund, has approved another round of Healthy People 2010 grants for chapters. The Healthy People 2010 initiative presents a comprehensive, nationwide health promotion and disease prevention agenda. It is designed to serve as a road map for improving the health of all people in the United States during the first decade of the 21st century. For more information about the Healthy People 2010 program, please visit the Healthy People 2010 Web site at www.healthypeople.gov.

The District Vice Chairpersons reviewed the Healthy People 2010 pediatric objectives and determined that the next round of chapter grants would focus on tobacco. In line with the Section on Medical Students, Residents and Fellows in Training’s 2008-2009 advocacy campaign that focused on tobacco, the intent will be for the chapters to work with a coalition of health care professionals, public health, scientific, parent, and media organizations to promote a healthy lifestyle by reducing children and adolescents’ tobacco usage, and their exposure to second-hand smoke.

Five chapters will be awarded $20,000 each to develop innovative programs to accomplish this goal. The Healthy People 2010 Grant Program for Chapters is supported by the AAP Friends of Children Fund. All AAP chapters qualify to compete for this grant, regardless of their tax status.

IMPORTANT NOTE: WIAAP is only allowed to endorse ONE application and that application as required by the RFP.  WIAAP would act as the administrative entity for this grant.

As such, interested applicants must submit a draft of all materials to our office no later than March 15, 2010.  Based on the submissions we receive, we will select one entry for final approval and submission to the AAP by the March 31, 2010 deadline.  Materials may be emailed to Kia LaBracke at KLaBracke@aap.net, or call us at 262.490.9075 if you have any questions pertaining to the application.

Below are the links for all documents pertaining to the Request for Proposals, which provides more information about the grant application process along with an application.
