PAST CHAPTER AWARD WINNERS
2008 Awards and Honors
Pediatrician of the Year
Carl Eisenberg, MD, FAAP
Dr. Eisenberg’s commitment to children and his long and storied career as a leader in advocacy and building partnerships with other groups to promote the health of children is unparalleled. His nominator noted, “He has a grin for everyone. It says, ‘I’d like to work with you on this.’” Every sphere of influence involving pediatric care in the state knows and appreciates his knowledge and influence. In addition, Dr. Eisenberg actively serves and promotes the AAP, chairing and participating in numerous committees on the state, district and national level. His enthusiasm and passion for the AAP is infectious.
Community Service Award
John Stephenson, MD, FAAP
Dr. Stephenson was recognized in particular for his tireless work in the field of adolescent medicine in Wisconsin for over 36 years. In addition to his remarkable ability to forge relationships with community agencies and groups to promote child welfare, he has also mentored countless medical students and residents currently practicing in the state.
Legislators of the Year
Joel Kleefisch (R-Oconomowoc)
Scott Suder (R-Abbotsford)
Reps. Suder and Kleefisch have together worked to promote legislation that will protect all children in the State of Wisconsin from becoming victims of repeat sex offenders. Both are valiant crusaders for the safety of all children in Wisconsin, not just in their home districts. Together they put together Project KidSafe, a bi-partisan legislative package enacted in 2006 with the key component being active GPS monitoring of the most high risk sex offenders. They also teamed up to make Jessica’s Law a reality in Wisconsin. This law requires strict prison terms for perpetrators of child sex crimes.

Three WIAAP members were recognized at the recent AAP District VI meeting in Minneapolis. We are proud of their accomplishments and appreciate their work on behalf of their patients and all of Wisconsin’s children.
