*"WI Medicaid NOT cutting Pediatric Fees to Medicare Fees"
AAP Endorsed Principles on Access:
- Every child must have quality health insurance.
- Health insurance should be a right, regardless of income, for all children, pregnant women, their families, and ultimately all individuals.
- All health insurance plans should have a comprehensive age appropriate benefits package such as that of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
- All children should have access to primary care pediatricians, pediatric medical subspecialists, pediatric surgical specialists, pediatric mental and dental professionals, and hospitals with appropriate pediatric expertise.
- All health plans should have payment rates that assure children receive all recommended and needed health services.
- Health insurance should be fully portable and provide continuous coverage.
- Administrative aspects should be streamlined and simplified.
- Families should have a choice of clinician(s).
- Health plans should complement and coordinate with existing maternal and child health programs to ensure maximum health benefits to families.

Goals of this Committee are:
- All children and youth with special health care needs will be identified through early and continuous screening
- All children and youth with special health care needs receive family-centered, comprehensive, coordinated, culturally-effective care within the context of a Medical Home
- Youth with special healthcare needs are transitioned to adult health care services
The Committee works to accomplish these goals by promoting education and learning
opportunities for pediatricians, other health care providers, and children and
youth with special health care needs and their families.
Recent activities of this Committee have focused on promotion of the Medical Home concept
through a Medical Home Summit and creation of the Wisconsin Medical Home toolkit available
at www.wimedicalhometoolkit.aap.org; youth
transitions; and developmental screening. Efforts continue to promote early hearing detection
and intervention in Wisconsin. In 2007, the Committee will continue to promote the Medical Home
concept in partnership with Family Voices of Wisconsin, Parent to Parent of Wisconsin, the
Regional CYSHCN Centers and other key statewide partners. See the attached 2006 CYSHCN Committee
Annual report to learn more.

This committee is working in collaboration with other committees to improve the quality of care for children within the medical home.
The early childhood initiatives of this committee have been focused on developmental screening and helping to educate providers of
pediatric care in Wisconsin about best practices for developmental screening as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics.
The foster care initiatives include monitoring foster care situations in various regions of the state and working to advocate for
foster children in Wisconsin. Currently, the Committee is promoting home visiting as a primary preventive measure of violence and
advocates for legislation in this regard on behalf of the Chapter.

This Committee
provides information to Wisconsin communities, physicians and families who wish to become better prepared for an emergency or disaster. We are involved in promoting readiness in Wisconsin for communities, children, and families through education and advocacy. We also support and develop programs that reduce injuries and improve optimal emergency care. We want to ensure that the special needs of children in an emergency and disaster are thought of during planning and preparation for potential future emergency and disasters both large and small. We want to ensure that someone representing the needs of children and with pediatric expertise always have a seat at the table. We will partner with other committees and groups and promote other programs in Wisconsin (such as the Wisconsin EMSC) that progress these goals.

and infectious disease topics important to the timely care of children.
The Committee educates members on changes in immunization recommendations
and their application to office practice. The Committee solicits
feedback from Chapter members about immunization practices and disseminates
the results back to Wisconsin pediatricians so that they can compare
their practices with those of their peers. Committee members participate
on several Wisconsin State panels including the Wisconsin Council
for Immunization Practices and the Wisconsin Perinatal Testing Advisory
Group to assure input that protects the health and rights of children.
