What's New: (posted July 3, 2010)

  • New Global International program in Jamaica (Need Pediatricians In Oct-Dec)
    • a 30 day pediatric medical rotation program.
    • Participants would be staying at the all inclusive Couples Resort www.couples.com – Couples Tower Isle, Ocho Rios.
    • Costs – participants would have to pay their own airline, and lunch along with medical health insurance and evacuation insurance.
    • Note:  The Ministry of Health has purchased a car and a driver for the program at no cost to medical personnel.  The medical personnel will be picked up at the resort and driven each morning and evening to and from the resort.

This program is through the Issa Trust Foundation (www.issatrustfoundation.com) a foundation formed in Miramar, Florida, specifically helping the children and families of Jamaica.  The Issa Trust Foundation was established in 2005 by Couples Resorts as a nonprofit organization. The mission of the Foundation is to provide a system of prevention, health promotion and education, community health improvement and other services to promote well-being and development for the people of Jamaica.

Participants will rotate at various pediatric clinics and hospitals experiencing first-hand the challenges of providing children services in resource-poor settings while gaining an understanding of the socioeconomic and cultural barriers families face in accessing those services for their children.  These efforts will affect self-sustainable change within the communities and will help them find lasting solutions and move toward self-reliance.
